Brașov neighbourhoods for families

Where to find parks, schools and peace and quiet in Brașov, what it costs and the compromises each neighbourhood involves.

Brașov is small enough to get anywhere in 20 minutes, but its neighbourhoods are very different. Here is how we see them after years of viewings with families.

Coresi and Tractorul

New apartment buildings, parks, shops and new schools on the site of the former industrial estate. This is the area young families choose most often. The compromise: congestion on the roads out at rush hour and above-average city prices for new apartments.

Noua

The lake, park and forest are just a few steps away, and the air is cooler in summer. There are both older apartment buildings and houses. It suits those looking for quiet and walks, but it is further from the centre.

Astra

A large neighbourhood with apartment buildings from the ’80s, schools, nurseries and markets on every corner. Prices are more affordable, and a well-renovated apartment here is often the best value for your budget.

Schei and Centrul Istoric

Old houses, sloping streets and the charm of the old town. Worth considering if you want to live within walking distance of everything. The compromise: parking is hard to find, tourists arrive in season and buildings need careful checks of the paperwork, plumbing and wiring.

Stupini

A rapidly developing area with new housing developments and slightly lower prices than Coresi. Infrastructure is being added year by year, so ask which schools and transport services are already operating.

Sânpetru, Ghimbav and Cristian

Houses with gardens, 15–20 minutes from the city. For many people, the garden outweighs the distance. Check the route to school and work at the time you would travel every day, rather than on a Sunday morning.

How to choose

Write down three things: where you work, where the children go to school and how much time you want to spend in the car. Then visit the neighbourhood twice, once during the week and once at the weekend.

Tell us what you are looking for, and we will make a shortlist with what we like and what we would check twice. Write to us here.
